How to spend a romantic evening in Madrid

Madrid’s architectural buildings and old towns make for an idilic place to stroll hand in hand. Team this with Madrid’s cosmopolitan vibe in the Gran Via and Huertas with locals and tourists alike meeting for an evening of tapas and wine. Huertas square is a romantic destination in itself with small elegant restaurants offering an array of food and drink to the soft sounds of music as the night gets underway. For those in the mood for something a little more bustling in the side streets off of Huertas square nightclubs can be found for the old and young to dance the night away.
As soon as we arrived in Madrid we felt it screamed romance. As we made our way through quant tapas cafes and marvelled at the museums and fountains alike we both mentioned that Madrid could easily challenge cities like Paris and Venice as the most romantic in Europe.

Follow our step by step guide on spending the most romantic evening in Madrid. We promise you won’t be disappointed.

Start your evening by heading over to Temple De Debod for sunset. Explore the parks grounds and take in the views from the hill top. Old buildings can be seen to be sitting on the clouds from there and it’s definitely Madrid’s architecture at it’s best. Then grab a seat at the temple’s edge and watch as the sunsets over the temple, as the lights turn on in the twilight sky the temple can transform you from Madrid to the Middle East or Asia.
On the walk back into the city centre stop by Jardines de Ferraz and view the fountains for some more good views. The lights in the evening transform the parks and fountains into a real life fairytale.   After the city is dark head down to Huertas square. Choose a tapas bar with outside square seating. Order a platter and bottle of wine or sangria and listen to the locals playing guitar. Huertas square is always bustling filled with both locals and tourists alike. On Friday and Saturday nights this is the cities liveliest spot and hours can be spent enjoying the atmosphere.  Once the square begins to empty take the side streets for a more intimate vino bar and grab a table at the window under candle light for a special experience. People watch the evening away or gaze into each others eyes over dessert and a little more wine.  Once the drinks have finished flowing and the evening becomes a little more cosy head towards Pasadizo San Gines to hit Choclateria San Gines. This spot is one of the oldest and best to have churros and hot chocolate. Packed with history and with a real traditional feel sit outside under the arch way for the best seat in the house. Sit and chat over hot chocolate as the evening winds to a close.  Be sure to try the above itinerary for the most romantic evening in Madrid!
