Hotel Heritage Bruges – Relais & Chateaux

When we got the opportunity to collaborate with Hotel Heritage Bruges we were instantly excited. The hotel had an elegance and great atmosphere from the moment we arrived and the valet took our car.  Upon entering Hotel Heritage Bruges were struck by the decor of the building, later to find out from the owners Johan and Isabelle that the hotel was actually an old bank and they had worked to restore part of the previous identity of the building.  HistoryThe hotel is owned by husband and wife Johan and Isabelle. Having always reamed of running their hotel after they met in 1991 there dreams came true when they discovered this house and bank. They purchased the building in 1992 and the hotel officially opened in 1993.Starting off as a small hotel and guesthouse the hotel has grown and gained an award winning luxury name in the hotel industry.  ArchitectureArchitecture fans are in for an exciting ride at the hotel as the hotel was originally designed by Louis Delacenserie in 1869. The brick built cellar below the house has been preserved since the 13th century.  The cosy lounge and reception area boasting a fire place, beams and large windows set the scene for the rest of the hotel. As we checked in we were whisked away to our suite in which the decor continued.    The suiteThe sleeping area was formed of an extra large king bed with ultimate comfort in mind. The sky light window conveniently placed above the pillows to allow star gazing from the bed. As we woke we were treated to ultimate views of sun rise over Bruges.  The lounge area provided large windows opening up to the hotels sky deck and patio area. Drink an espresso from the personal machine as you enjoy the magazines and books provided if you can take your eyes away from the fabulous view.  The bathroom gave the option of both jacuzzi bath and large walk in shower. Treat yourself to the hotels own salts and bubble baths provided.  Many amenities are provided including iPad in every room, twice daily housekeeping and turn down service and daily newspapers seeping luxury at every turn. DiningBe lucky enough to score yourself an evening reservation at the hotels gourmet restaurant. A la carte dining is on offer in it’s best form as you sample the chef’s finest dishes.  Morning breakfast is served int he best way possible – with champagne. The champagne comes complete with buffet style meats, salmon and caviar along with a la carte options such as poached eggs, omelettes and eggs Benedict. We recommend the chef’s special poached egg washed down with an excellent glass of champagne.         Recreational activities Hidden on the bottom floor is an amazing gym. Still boasting it’s original architecture and stone walls the gym has been left mostly untouched. Step back in time as you work out amongst outstanding architecture.   Relax after a hard day of exploring Bruges in the hotel spa. The sauna and steam room offer ultimate relaxation and the space to really unwind after a long day.     Sky deckThe views from the top of the hotel are unforgettable. Tower and roof top views can be seen from all around. Enjoy a cocktail or a glass of champagne from the sky terrace for the ultimate experience.    LocationAlways the most important aspect for us with any hotel is the location. The hotel is located only steps away from Bruges main square where you will find the main restaurants, Belfort tower, chocolate shops and museums.  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Heritage Bruges and after meeting the manager Maria and the owners Johan and Isabelle we were taken in by their general love for the hotel and their constant personal touches at every stage.
