Riding the train from Kandy to Ella Although you would be lucky to grab a seat when riding these popular routes in Sri Lanka, there is no better way to see this beautiful country than watching out the door of the train as you whizz past waterfalls, tea plantations and tons of beautiful scenery. Climbing Adam’s Peak Getting up at 2am and hiking to the top of Adam’s Peak is the only way to see the true beauty of this climb. Reaching the peak at sunrise will give you an awe inspiring view, then on the way back down marvel at the many waterfalls you could only hear in the dark on the way up!
Visiting the turtle hatchery Visiting the turtle hatchery in Hikkaduwa is a must for anyone in the area. Meet the owner who will tell you his story of how his family died in the boxing day tsunami that devastated Sri Lanka and how he took over his family’s turtle hatchery to rehabilitate injured and poached turtles and ultimately get them back out swimming in the wild. If you have the time why not volunteer for a few weeks here at the hatchery!
