When visiting Las Vegas or Nevada you will more than likely want to visit the Grand Canyon. Named as one of the Natural wonders of the world the Grand Canyon is definitely not to be missed. The red rock formations caused by years of volcanic work are a piece of art.
Location
The Grand Canyon is a National Park located in Arizona. The Grand Canyon is huge in size and is a topping 277 miles. Surrounding the canyon is Hover Dam and Lake Mead. Many tours offered of the Grand Canyon includes stopping off, or flying over both attractions. We flew over both in a helicopter and loved the view from the top. The blue waters of Lake Mead are not to be missed. The flight also gave great views of the Colorado river.
Transport
There are several ways to view the Grand Canyon. We chose to see the Canyon in a helicopter from above that landed on the canyon’s west rim. We believe that by seeing the canyon from above we saved a ton of time and also saw more from above than we would have been able to by driving or hiking. That being said certain parts of he Grand Canyon can be reached by car. Most of the drivable routes have allowances for hiking once you arrive. One of the best routes for driving the canyon is to head on the desert view drive. The route will take you around the south rim for approximately 25 miles.
Tours
Everywhere in Las Vegas are offering competitive rates on the various Grand Canyon tours. We chose to do our tour with Sundance tours and chose the sunset option. Included in our price was limousine transfers to and from or hotel, a small helicopter with only 6 guests, landing on the canyons west rim and the opportunity for a champagne picnic. We selected the sunset option which we cannot recommend enough. We saw the canyon during the golden hour and watching the sky change over the canyon and turn amazing shades of pink and purple we knew we made the right decision. At the end of our tour the helicopter showcased the lights of the Las Vegas strip.
